Promoting your craft or your hobby that is being used as a money making venture is a necessary part of doing business. Increasing sales is generally the only way to increase profits, and no one can buy your handcrafted items if they do not know about them. The advent of the Internet has brought with it a way to break down barriers and expand even the most basic of hobbies and crafts into global enterprise. If that sounds to good to be true, it is not. The Internet is one the most powerful tool any crafter or hobbyist can utilize in their quest for good old fashioned green. That being said, the whole process requires a fair amount of work and more than a little experience, and of course before thousands of units of anything can be sold a good bit of time has to be put in as well. While the chance always exists for an overnight success, the vast majority of crafters, DIY'ers, and hobby enthusiasts must put in ample amounts of time not only honing their crafts but promoting their ventures as well.

Using social networking sites like

Another great way to increase sales is keeping in contact with previous customers. Use of an email is a great way to keep in touch with folks that have purchased from you in the past, and it is much more cost effective in promoting a craft or hobby oriented business than traditional mail. Simply, set out a book at your next craft show or event for folks to sign up to your newsletter, or even offer a one dollar discount for folks to offer up their email address. Once you have your mailing list started, you will be surprised how many customers forward that email to other people asking where things were purchased. Word of mouth, or of computer, can be an extremely powerful tool in increasing sales.

Using different selling techniques is also a great way to increase sales. If someone you know is going to a flea market or having a yard sale, ask if they would mind setting out a few of your items. You will be surprised how many people jump on the chance, you can even sweeten the pot by offering up a cut of the sales. However, do not forget to include a tray of business cards or brochures with your blog address and contact information to expand on any customer interest.

The bottom line is communication and perseverance can produce incredible results and increase sales in any craft or hobby oriented money making venture. Promoting your craft and hobby by using the Internet and other means at your disposal requires a fair amount of experience and organization. By all accounts they are all works in progress and trial and error is the main process to follow. However, using the platforms available will only serve to increase your chances of becoming a rousing success.

source:
personal experienceMyspace, Facebook, and Twitter is a great way to get started, and many crafters already utilize these tools for ideas and interaction. However, to truly unlock the power of these sites having something to link to them is a great way to showcase individual talent and creativity. For many people the answer is a blog. Making and updating a blog is relatively simple process. Many free blog hosting sites like Blogger and Wordpress make blogging a snap. Since the main elements of crafts are visuals pictures are a must. But quality pictures are the key. You see, anyone can take a camera and snap off a few photographs of a blanket or a wood sign. Making that picture stand out in the memory of someone is where the real key is. So experiment with different photograph techniques, and find a look that appeals to the eye so the image really pops into memory.
